Excavation

Earth Retention

At Quality Excavation, we are stay at the forefront of technological advances in structural engineering. We regularly work with some of Chicagoland's most innovative engineering companies, staying up-to-date on the latest techniques and developments in the field. With a deep understanding of the unique challenges posed by Chicago's landscape, including tight spaces and awkward lots, we are well-equipped to handle complex excavation projects. We work closely with your team to ensure the seamless installation of your chosen earth retention system, bringing our expertise and knowledge to bear on every project. Our areas of expertise include the installation of various earth retention systems, including

Sheet Piles

We are committed to minimizing ground disturbance during our excavation work. To achieve this, we use a pressing technique to install sheet piles, rather than the more common vibrating method. This allows us to work in close proximity to existing structures, protecting their integrity. Our skilled crews have extensive experience in this technique, and are well-equipped to handle even the most complex and restricted projects, such as those often found in Chicagoland. Whether your project calls for a cantilever wall structure or sheet pile installation with bracing, our union operators have the expertise and experience to tackle it safely and efficiently.

Soldier Piles and Lagging

Our operators begin the installation of an earth retention system by pre-drilling holes to the required depth, based on the specifications provided by the structural engineer. These holes are then backfilled with concrete or grout, and the H piles are set in place at regular intervals. Lagging is installed horizontally to retain the soil, and our team carefully backfills the area behind it. In some cases, our crews may also install an internal bracing system to complement the soldier piles and lagging, further strengthening the earth retention system during construction. We tailor our approach to each project's unique specifications, ensuring that the system is properly installed and effective.

Demolition

Demolition

Demolition projects in Chicago can vary greatly in scope and complexity, and often require a tailored approach. Many of the city's most desirable properties are located in confined working environments, with neighboring businesses and residences close at hand. This can pose unique challenges, requiring careful planning and execution to ensure that the work is completed safely and responsibly. We have extensive experience in working in these confined spaces, and we are equipped to handle even the most complex demolition projects in Chicago.

Our laborers are on-site to assist our operators, minimizing dust and other potential hazards, and protecting all those who enter or exit the jobsite. They also work to minimize disruptions to your neighbors, ensuring that the work is carried out with minimal disruption. Once the demolition work is complete, our team of expert operators will prepare and grade the site in accordance with your project's specifications, leaving it ready for the next phase of construction or excavation.

We take a proactive approach to ensuring the success of your demolition project. This begins with our support staff pulling all necessary permits, ensuring compliance with all relevant city, state, and federal regulations. Our project management team then develops a detailed sequence of work activities, outlining each phase of the demolition process. They choose the most appropriate equipment from our fleet to maximize efficiency and control, and conduct all demolition activities with an eye toward protecting the structural integrity of adjacent buildings and party walls. Throughout the project, our project managers maintain open communication with your team, providing regular updates and answering any questions you may have. We are committed to ensuring that your project is completed smoothly and successfully, from start to finish.

Excavation

Site Clearance & Preparation

Demolition site clearance and preparation are essential steps in the excavation process. Before any demolition or excavation work can begin, the site must be carefully cleared of any debris, obstacles, or other potential hazards. This may involve removing existing structures, trees, or other vegetation, as well as grading and leveling the site to prepare it for the construction or excavation work that will follow. At Quality Excavation, our team has the expertise and equipment to handle all aspects of demolition site clearance and preparation, ensuring that the site is ready for the next phase of the project.

On-Site Clearing

On-Site Screening

At Quality Excavation, we are committed to responsible and sustainable practices, going above and beyond the requirements of the Chicago Environmental Protection and Control Ordinance. With the use of our on-site screener, we are able to recycle a high percentage of demolition debris, typically achieving a recycling rate of 90% or more. We also work closely with licensed exterminators and asbestos abatement experts, when necessary, to ensure that your project is fully compliant with all relevant EPA and public health regulations. By taking these extra steps, we are able to protect the environment and support the health and safety of our team and our clients.
